Jordan Cattle Auction Mason - San Saba July 12, 2012
Thursday, July 19, 2012 • Posted July 19, 2012

Receipts totaled 3087 head for the week. A choice offering of calves and yearlings were offered this week at the Special Stocker and Feeder Sales. Earlier in the week the market was steady but as the week moved along, more reports of the damage that the heat and drought has caused to the corn crops up north pushed corn higher creating larger increases in the cost of feeding cattle. Just in the last few weeks, corn has gone from the lower $5 a bushel up to near $8 a bushel. Cost in feeding cattle in the feedyard has gone from around a $1.00 a lb to $1.30 lb a gain. Also, the heat wave throughout the country has lowered demand for grilling and consumption of beef which caused the fat cattle to trade at $114-$115 this week which is $4 less than last week. For more commentary on this, go to our website jordancattle.com on the Link page and click on The Cattle Report under Market Commentary. With all these changes, the market reacted with the stocker steers and heifers selling $5 lower and the bigger feeder cattle going direct to the feedyards selling $5-$10 lower depending on flesh and condition. Packer bulls were $3 lower and packer cows were $2 lower. Pairs, bred cows and bred heifers however were steady to $100 higher with top a pairs at $1950 and top bred cows at $1450.Steers: choice lightweight calves 185.00-220.00; choice medium weight calves 145.00-190.00; choice heavyweight calves 138.00-156.00Heifers: choice lightweight calves 145.00-210.00; choice medium weight calves 135.00-160.00; choice heavyweight calves 130.00-160.00Yearlings: choice lightweight steer yearlings 130.00-142.00; choice heavyweight steer yearlings 120.00-137.00; choice lightweight heifer yearlings 120.00-129.00; choice heavyweight heifer yearlings 110.00-113.00; #2 steer calves and yearlings 120.00-150.00; #2 heifer calves and yearlings 110.00-140.00; shorties and plainer calves and yearlings 110.00-120.00Bred Cows: choice bred cows 1200-1450; medium to good bred cows 1060-1190; plainer and older bred cows 900-1050Slaughter Cows: high yield 80.00-87.00; medium yield 75.00-79.00; low yield 70.00-74.00; heiferetts and young stockers 90.00-120.00Bulls: high yield 107.00-111.00; medium yield 101.00-106.00; low yield 95.00-100.00; feeder 95.00-106.00Pairs: Choice 1400.00-1950.00; medium to good 1160.00-1390.00; plainer and older 950.00-1150.00Stocker & Feeder Champions – July 9, 2012 – Mason, Tx.English: Co-Champion – Silas Brandenberger – Mason, TXCo-Champion – Rocking K Ranch – Art, TXReserve Champion – Jean Stengel – Mason, TXExotic:Champion – James and Sue Reeves – Llano, TX Reserve Champion – Bradley Baethge – Harper, TXCrossbred:Champion – Bill Martin, Jr – Mason, TXReserve Champion – Baker Ranch – Sonora, TXStocker & Feeder Champions – July 12, 2012 – San Saba, Tx.English:Co-Champion – Rafter Cross Ranch – San Saba, TXCo-Champion – Chuck Dalchau – Llano, TXReserve Champion – A C Ranch – Eldorado, TXExotic:Champion – Mark Locker – Richland Springs, TXReserve Champion – Charles Shell – Round Rock, TXCrossbred:Champion – Pecan Creek – Llano, TXReserve Champion – Gabe & Albert Korzekwa – Gillett, TXPremium Weaned Calf Champions – July 12, 2012 – Mason, Tx.English:Co-Champion – Bar Z Zesch Ranch – Brady, TXCo-Champion – Kuykendall Ranch – Cherokee, TXReserve Champion – XTC Graves Ranch – Goldthwaite, TXExotic:Champion – Gwen Dean – Cherokee, TXReserve Champion – Mike Mallett – Lampasas, TXCrossbred:Champion – Gorman Farms – Hall Summitt, LAReserve Champion – T Z Cattle Co – Brenham, TXRepresentative sales:Bar Z Zesch Ranch, Brady, 22 steers, 738 lbs 131.03Robert Loftin, Granbury, 6 steers, 608 lbs 145.00Clay Richardson, Ozona, 38 steers, 288 lbs 214.70PS Cattle, San Saba, 23 feeder steers, 308 lbs 215.00PS Cattle, San Saba, 14 angus steers, 607 lbs 145.00PS Cattle, San Saba, 13 angus steers, 770 lbs 126.00PS Cattle, San Saba, 26 feeder heifers, 314 lbs 195.00A C Ranch, Eldorado, 19 steers, 446 lbs 164.00Guthrie Ranch, Lometa, 18 steers, 524 lbs 153.00A C Ranch, Eldorado, 43 steers, 499 lbs 152.00Mike Chirpich, Bluffton, 10 steers, 634 lbs 147.00Rafter Cross Ranches, Ltd, San Saba, 17 steers, 601 lbs 144.00Rafter Cross Ranches, Ltd, San Saba, 32 steers, 676 lbs 136.50Fleming Springs Ranch, San Saba, 20 steers, 753 lbs 126.50Rafter Cross Ranches, Ltd, San Saba, 32 heifers, 567 lbs 133.00Rafter Cross Ranches, Ltd, San Saba, 35 heifers, 661 lbs 125.00Royce Bowles, Harker Heights, 18 heifers, 1200.00Andy Dunbar, Rocksprings, 1 steer, 345 lbs 200.00Carla Ebeling, Eden, 5 steers, 414 lbs 188.00Lynn Molesworth, Junction, 4 steers, 470 lbs 170.00John Quinn, Brady, 3 steers, 522 lbs 164.00Silas Brandenberger, Mason, 16 steers, 567 lbs 159.00Rocking K Ranch, Art, 5 steers, 606 lbs 156.00Jean Stengel, Mason, 13 steers, 634 lbs 145.00Silas Brandenberger, Mason, 17 steers, 667 lbs 143.50James and Sue Reeves, Llano, 10 steers, 748 lbs 140.50Silas Brandenberger, Mason, 11 steers, 729 lbs 139.00Bill Martin, Jr, Mason, 8 steers, 773 lbs 137.50Micheal and Merle Cope, Mason, 6 steers, 774 lbs 137.50Bill Martin, Jr, Mason, 6 steers, 842 lbs 132.00Silas Brandenberger, Mason, 18 heifers, 604 lbs 160.00Jean Stengel, Mason, 7 heifers, 464 lbs 158.00Jean Stengel, Mason, 12 heifers, 565 lbs 146.50Charles Pluenneke, Mason, 2 heifers, 663 lbs 140.00
