Graveside funeral services for Wayne Dudley Nelson, 84, of San Saba County, were held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday July 14, in the Holt Cemetery with James Young officiating. Interment will be under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early. Mr. Wayne Nelson passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in Jayton, Texas. Wayne Nelson was born on May 9, 1928 in Redwine, Texas , a son of Lucian Keller “Heavy” Nelson and Jewel Odessa Smith Nelson. He was raised and educated in Redwine and New Home, Texas. After graduating at New Home in 1945, he attended Texas Tech University one and a half years before entering the Marines in 1947. He served in the United States Marines for three years. Following his discharge he attended Texas Tech and then became employed by National Supply in Odessa, Texas. He met and married Daphyne Gober in Eldorado, Texas on January 18, 1953. They made their home in Midland, Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico with their two daughters. He worked for National Supply for 35 years until retirement and then returned to National for an additional 5 years. He and his wife finally retired in San Saba County. They attended the Church of Christ in Richland Springs. He is survived by two daughters, Mariann Young and husband, Farron of Porter, Texas and Shana Cheyne and husband, Sug of Spur, Texas. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his wife Daphyne Gober Nelson and parents Heavy and Jewel Nelson.
