Congratulations San Saba
Thursday, July 19, 2012 • Posted July 19, 2012

The City of San Saba was recently a little kitten who roared like a lion and was heard, recognized and rewarded for the effort. Each year The Governor's Community Achievement Awards presents various Texas communities a portion of two million dollars in monies for landscaping purposes from the Texas Department of Transportation. The criteria for awarding the money is based on communities with grassroots efforts to beautify, recycle and clean up their city, county and surrounding area. Our name was put up for submission by Keep San Saba Beautiful in hopes all the hard work done to pick up, clean up and spiff up the city, parks and county would be noticed and considered for the honor.San Saba was awarded $110,000 as a result of the amazing efforts of the citizens, City officials and business owners. Everyone should be profoundly proud of such a wonderful accomplishment. What is truly impressive is our little town managed to win this great honor having only been active over a three year period. It was an effort taken on by schools, churches, average citizens, business owners and local goverment. Of course, for those of us who have lived here any length of time, coming together to accomplish something is just second nature here in San Saba. The money will be used for landscaping along the state right of ways for beautification projects. A very special thank you to Alamo Pecan for donating their very special pecan filled bags that helped show other towns exactly what it was San Saba was doing. Thanks to all who volunteered their time, their energy, their muscles, and ended up with sore backs. We have something very special in this community and it is not just the landscape. While there is no doubt Mill Pond, Risien Park and the new Nature Center are gorgeous, what truly makes San Saba spectacular as a place to live is the hearts of the people who call it home. Congratulations San Saba and good job everyone! Now the thing is to continue the good work, keep San Saba beautiful, recycle, pick up clean up and beautify!
