Thursday, July 12, 2012 • Posted July 12, 2012

Voting delegates from San Saba and McCullough Counties attended the State Republican Convention on June 6-8 at the Ft. Worth Convention Center. San Saba residents included Roger Edmondson, Carolyn Weyerts and Marcus Amthor along with McCullough County residents T-Bird Wood, Mark and Sheila Hemphill, T.J. Turk and Brady Donelson. The Delegates convened by Senatorial district caucus for the purpose of adopting a state party platform, to elect a state chairman and vice-chairman and to elect members for the Republican executive committee. Three delegates and three alternates were elected to attend the national convention being held in Tampa, Florida in late August. T-Bird Wood, a native of San Saba County who is currently residing in Brady, was elected as an alternate to the national convention. The delegates all stated about what an enlightening experience it was to witness how the electoral process unfolds starting at the county level all the way to the national convention. There was an increased amount of interest in the Texas convention this year because of the retirement of a long time senator whose seat will be filled in the general election. Each local delegate strongly encourages that all citizens support the political process, regardless of political party, in order to keep our freedom of elections and the right to vote alive.
