One day, John Wood, the minister went to the railroad round-house to talk with a new member of his congregation. When he reached out to shake the man’s hand, the railroader declined. “My hands are too dirty from working on the engines,” he said. Then John bent over and rubbed his hands in the coal soot that covered the ground. “There,” he said, “Will you shake now?”Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” We must remember that we are called to serve. No job is beneath anyone who loves Christ. No person is less because of his economic, educational, racial or social standing. For it is in giving that we receive, in helping that we are blessed and in stooping to serve then we stand the tallest in God’s sight.
