A Ft. Hood helicopter crashed at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, approximately 28 miles southeast of the San Saba City limits near Bend. The crash claimed the lives of two Army personnel and sent seven others to hospitals in serious to critical condition.The home of Reuben and Patricia Senterfitt, located at 1403 W, Dry in San Saba, was burglarized on Wednesday June 16 between the hours of 2:45 p.m. and 4:25 p.m. Expensive jewelry, men's gold wrist watch, lady's white gold diamond ring with matching wedding band were among the items stolen. The stolen items are believed to be valued at between $10,000 and $12,000.The Eventide Nursing Home will fly a flag on July 4th that was sent by the United States Navy to one of the residents who is a veteran of WW1. The flag recently flew over the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.Tama Shaw was selected to appear on The Price is Right June 22 while in Los Angeles attending a Family Planning program. Tama's winnings amounted to near $4,000 including a dining room suite, dishes, pearl necklace and $1,000 cash. The show will be aired on Sept. 20.

Judge and Mrs. G.A, Walters of this city celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary at their home on W. Commerce St. Wednesday, June 15, and a singular occurrence was that their seven children were all together for the first time in their lives.A summer camp, Camp Taylor, in the form of a family reunion has been located in the W.J. Roberson river bottom west of this place for this past week. This is an annual affair for the seven Taylor brothers, well-known doctors and ministers of this and other states.A mark for editors of 6-column 4-page papers to shoot at was set by the San Saba Star last week when it published 2,605 names, 2,514 local ones and 91 out-of-town names. The 2,605 names were published in 68 stories throughout the paper. An extension of their lines the Pecan Belt Highway a half mile or more is being made by the Texas Power and Light Company at this place.

The Southwestern Telegraph and Telephone Co. now has a large force of construction hands at work making their San Saba exchange brand new and much larger and strictly up-to-now. A new switch board will be installed.The San Saba Marble Quarry Co. is receiving the material this week for the construction of the derrick to go down for oil. The first test well will be sunk in the Simpson Valley near where the Chappel road crosses the creek.The G.F.W. Club met with Miss Mabel Clara Urquhart last week. Sewing and fancy work engaged the attention of the members and ice cream and cake were served for refreshments. These were present: Misses Bernice Sanderson, Inez Ketchum, Mayme Low, Mary Cunningham, Bessie Sullivan, Oma Hendricks, Edith Clark and Alvina Arhleger as a visitor.Drs. E.C. Beaumont and H.H. Taylor have formed a partnership for the practice of medicine and surgery in San Saba and surrounding territory. These men will make their offices over Simmons' Drug Store.
