Homer Lawrence Smith

Homer Lawrence Smith, 75, of George West, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 5, 1936 in Cherokee, Texas. He was a retired school teacher and coach in George West for 25 years. He coached a variety of sports and always loved attending the games even after he retired. He also proudly served in the US Navy from 1957 to 1961. He was previously a deacon and treasurer of the Church of Christ in George West. He loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed playing golf and dominoes with his buddies at the Mesquite Country Club, where he was the treasurer. He was always willing to help friends and family with anything they needed and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 47 years, Dayma Stewart Smith; loving children, Dayna and Richard Tyler of Austin; Curtis and Elaine Smith of Cedar Park; and Krista and Brandon Ingram of Cedar Park; grandchildren, Drew Holland, Ali, Lauren and Gavin Smith and Ryan Ingram; siblings, Roy Lee Smith and Jane Grumbles; family friend, Leona Holland and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives.He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Lillie Smith; brothers, Jack, S.L. and Billy Frank Smith.There was a visitation on Friday, June 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba, Texas. The funeral was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Church of Christ in Cherokee, Texas. Brother Doug Suggs conducted the service. Serving as pallbearers were Joey Grumbles, Randy Grumbles, Drew Holland, Bertis Stewart, Shane Helm, and Stevie Helm.
