Bands advance to Area Outstanding Performance Series
Thursday, June 21, 2012 • Posted June 21, 2012

Two HS recordings and one 7th grade band recording were submitted to the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series (OPS). OPS is a contest where a panel of judges listen to recordings and determine which recordings sound the best of all the ones submitted in each category. The judges rank the bands based solely on which recording is the most aesthetically pleasing to listen to. In other words, the judges do not look at sheet music when they are judging for this contest like they do at UIL Concert & Sight Reading; rather they just decide which band sounds the best. The HS Band’s march recording and concert piece recording were both ranked 2nd in their respective categories at Region OPS! The one 7th grade concert piece recording that was submitted was ranked 1st at Region OPS!!! Both the HS recordings and 7th grade’s recording are advancing to Area OPS on June 19th which, based on attainable records, is the first time in history either San Saba Band has advanced out of region!!! Another historic achievement for the San Saba Band program! The best part is, since it’s a recording, the band students get to relax in our own homes for this competition!
