The Richland Springs cafetorium hosted many events this spring. Events included the spring band recital, UIL academic awards, one-act play presentation, alumni banquet, sports banquet, 8th grade graduation, and 12th grade graduation. Thanks to all who came and supported students at these events.

Several new teachers will be employed by the district next year. Pam Starr will be teaching computer technology and Angela Schultz will be teaching Spanish. Nelson Smith will be teaching social studies and Dwayne Bishop will teach band.

Mr. Bishop is already working to improve the band program. Improvements to the band program include new paint in the band hall, ordering carpet for the floor risers, repair of 24 instruments to playing condition by King Music, updating and purchasing music for students.

A letter will be sent to prospective band members for t-shirt sizes. Call the school if you are interested in playing in the band. Band uniforms will be worn when cooler weather arrives; t-shirts will be worn in the meantime.

The Board of Trustees and administrators attended the Texas Association of School Boards’ Summer Leadership Institute in San Antonio in June. School board members and administrators received valuable training and enjoyed the beautiful sights in San Antonio.

The Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting on July 21, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room in the cafetorium. The Board reviewed the student handbook, code of conduct and the extracurricular code of conduct.

Changes will be in next week’s paper. The Board of Trustees cordially invites residents to attend board meetings. There is a public forum at the beginning of board meetings that allows for public input. Your input is always welcomed, appreciated, and respected.

Teachers report for in-service/staff development on August 18th. Students report for the first day of school on August 25. The first week of school will be busy.

The Coyote Booster Club is hosting the Coyote Classic again this year. The Coyotes opening football game is at home on Friday, August 29th at 7:30 p.m. against Walnut Springs. Four more games are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 30th.

The Coyote Kick-off Classic is getting larger every year. The Booster Club needs your help to prepare and host this event. Everyone is especially invited to help in order to give back something to our community. 2008-2009 looks to be a GOOD year at RSISD. Community involvement is the key to our success!
