The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met July24, 2008 for play day with the June Chair, Anita Miles, calling for a game of Binga, Banga, Bongo. First on the green (Binga), closest to the pin(Banga), and first in the hole(Bongo) score a point for that hole.

The ladies had two flights of players, according to their handicaps. In the first flight Anita Miles was first and there was a tie for second between Sandee Hartley and Bobbie Churchill. The other player in the first flight was Hattie Rogers.

In the second flight the winner was Dorothy Sterner and second place went to Jo Anne Hardy. Becky Hardin and Jo Ann Snow also participated in that flight.

Anita Miles scored the Low Gross for the day and Dorothy Sterner the Low Net. Sandee Hartley chipped in to win the chip in pot and Bobbie Churchill scored the only birdie of the day.

The Summer Four Lady Pecan Classic Tournament is scheduled for August 23, 2008 and will be sponsored by the Mills County State Bank of Goldthwaite, Texas.

The ladies appreciate our friends from across the river, the Mills County State Bank, as they have sponsored this tournament for many years.

One of our players, Priscilla Muse, works in the bank and always participates in this tournament. This is one of the many joys of living in small town USA.

Neighbors being neighborly and supporting each other in many endeavors. When Goldthwaite had a serious downtown fire a few years ago the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department was quickly on the scene and assisting in every way.

Now, on the football field it’s a different story! Arch rivals! It began many years ago when one team sent the other team a funeral wreath the night before the game. So, the beat goes on!

The business meeting will be August 7, 2008. In the meantime, get your bottle of water and your visor and enjoy the July sunny sunny weather by sweating and “swinging!”
