TCEQ studying needs for Watermaster of Texas rivers
Thursday, June 7, 2012 • Posted June 7, 2012

In March of 2012, The Texas Commission of Environmental Quality announced to the holders of water permits from several rivers in the central part of the state that it had received request since the drought of 2011, to appoint a Watermaster over the COLORADO BASIN RIVERS. This apparently includes the Colorado from the Buchanan Dam up river to its head. This also, may include the water shed of the San Saba and the Llano River to where it empties into Lake LBJ.As a result of the many comments to the March announcement, TCEQ has announced several meetings for the month of June to receive input for such action. Since such request was received to name a Watermaster, they must study the needs for such and present their recommendations to the State Legislature in January. The final actions will be at the legislative level as to whether or not a Watermaster will be named. In the June meetings, three options will be presented and possibly a 4th based on input from these meetings. Note that the holders of permits will bare the cost of a Watermaster program but all owners of property will be affected by these actions. Area meetings are as follows and all start at 6 PM. Four others are held below Austin in regard to the lower river area and the Brazos, so you can see that it is important to attend:San Saba, TX June 7, San Saba High School, 104 S. 8th St., San Saba, TX.
