The rain that had been predicated for last Thursday just didn’t happen. It looked very promising for a few hours but then the sun came out and puff it was all gone. A slight chance for rain this week but don’t hold your breath till it happens.Brenda Smithhart Wilde of Alvarado was in last week to visit her grandmother who is in the nursing home in San Saba. Lesa Preece returned with her to Alvarado and spent the weekend.Lola Morris had visitor’s this past week. Her nephew Calvin Henniger and his wife Peggy stopped by on their way home to Pasadena. They had been to Pecos to visit their daughter Holley and had also stopped in San Angelo and visited their granddaughter Randi and her family. They dined on hamburgers at Bad Bob’s before going on to Pasadena.Michael & Gennifer Brister had a very busy Memorial weekend. A birthday party was held down at the Leaning’ Bluff Lodge for their son Dean, who celebrated his 6th Birthday, as well as his graduation from TTUISD Kinder-garten. Friday morning, they had family, Ben & Darla Mooney, come down from Bochita OK. Tommy & Becky Grant from Salado & Guy, Jennifer & Tyler Grant from Salado came in on Friday as well. Gennifer took them over to see Sulphur Springs to check out the beautiful spring. Saturday morning, Gen’s cousins from Henrietta TX, Doug & Daniel Wimberley, along with her cousin Cathy Pearson from China Spring, as well as her cousin Richard Wimberley from Kilgore TX all arrived! Everyone ate chicken salad, enchiladas and lots of dessert prepared by Gennifer. Later that afternoon, Gennifer’s cousins Bobby & Sandra Jones arrived from Pidcoke. Michael & his crew fired up the fish fryers & he cooked fish with all of the fixing’s! After the fish fry, Dean opened all of his gifts from his family! Saturday evening, all the guests went down to Michael & Gen’s house for the first annual Brister Skeet Shoot Tournament! Dillon & Dean love to shoot their guns & hunts, so they were in their element! After the skeet shoot was over, Gen passed out trophies she had made to the winners! Michael took the guests on a tour of the place. The Barefoot fishing camp was full to capacity with customers over the weekend. Gennifer cooked breakfast for everyone Sunday morning before they all went home. Dean said this was the best birthday ever! His favorite gift was his tool set that his Daddy got him! Dean just turned six and is already wanting to know when he can get his drivers license. Dean may have to wait a few years before that can happen. It seems that they start younger and younger wanting to drive.Karen Risberg, Raymond, Lewvon, Bobby, Laura Beth Hicks spent the Memorial Day holiday at Black Lake Park on Lake Buchanan. Debbie Hicks is assistant manager of LCRA Park. She was working , but was able to join the family for meals and the evenings. The lake and Park was beautiful and the weather was perfect. Raymond reported that the lake is in need of water. They enjoyed swimming and riding bikes.. Raymond, Lewvon and Karan left Wednesday for S. Carolina where they will visit with their daughter Belinda before Karan has to leave to return to her home in Oxie, Sweden. She has resided with the Hicks family this past year as an exchange student attending school in Lampasas. Laura Beth has been practicing her Swedish so that she can be an exchange student in the Risberg home when she gets to be a junior in high school.Bonnie Millican reported that son Geoff, Lindsay and grandson Henry came in for a brief visit Saturday. They celebrated Lindsay’s birthday by having lunch in Lampasas. Grandson Henry is cuter than ever and is talking lots more. His new favorite word is “seriously” when he thinks something is good or he agrees. They collected their dog Bozart that Bonnie and Pat had been babysitting. Bonnie reported that their garden is looking really good these days. Thanks to the purple martins they haven’t had to put out any spray for bugs. The squash is prolific and people run when you ask if they want any squash.It was reported that R.J. and Patsy Henniger’s grandsons was shown on ESPN playing rugby. One grandson goes to the University of California and the other goes to Notre Dame. Their father was in the stands and the announcer talked about the family and showed the dad sitting in the stands. California won, but Saturday they played again and lost to Dartmouth.Happy birthday goes out to Guy Grant and George Dennis and Henry Millican who will celebrate a birthday June 10.
