He did it! After three attempts he was able to successfully achieve his goal. I’m not sure I understand why he did it, but he did. There are not a lot of people trying to duplicate his fete.Actually, I don’t know of anyone who is. Who is it and what did he do? His name is Kent Couch. He lives in Oregon. He got his green lawn chair recliner, tied 150 helium balloons to it, took the necessary provisions he needed, which included a Red Ryder BB gun and some blow darts. He took off and “flew” his lawn chair to Idaho, some 230 miles away. He flew at 15,000 feet(almost 3 miles). He had tried it twice before but each time fell short of his intended goal. The BB gun and darts were used to shoot the balloons when he was ready to descend. When I think of the fete that Mr. Couch did, I am reminded that sometimes we do not do things because we are concerned about what others might say. Not so with Mr. Couch. He does not care if people think he is “crazy” or “risky” or anything else. He just did what he wanted to do. When it comes to our Christianity are we willing to take the risk? Are we willing to obey God in the manner He has said to? Are we afraid of what our family might say or our friends? Are we concerned that they will not want anything to do with us, so we remain silent and let some wonderful blessings escape us? Peter stepped out of a boat and walked on water. When he saw the waves and wind he began to sink. (Matthew 14:22-32) He took the risk but let fear keep him from completing his journey. Today, take the risk. Step out in faith. Don’t worry about what the crowd says. Just follow the prodding our Lord gives through his Word.
