SS High School Alumni Association awards Sam Pledger

The San Saba High School Alumni Association (SSHSAA), as part of its ongoing effort to honor former students, presented its seventh Spring Sports Alumni Award at the Spring Sports Awards Program to an alumni athlete who excelled in a spring sport. The SSHSAA is pleased to have given this award this year to Sam Pledger. The Spring Sports Awards Program was held Thursday, May 17th.Sam Pledger graduated from San Saba High School in 1984. He was an outstanding golfer during his entire high school career. During his freshman year, the Armadillo golf team of which he was a member, were district champions, regional champions, and finished as the third place team in the state tournament. Sam won individual honors as the first medalist in the regional tournament. During his sophomore year, the golf team finished second in the district tournament, second in the regional tournament, and won the state championship in class 2A. Individually Sam was the second place medalist at the district tournament and was the third place medalist at the state tournament. During his junior year, the golf team won first place in district, first place in regional, and repeated as the state champion in class 2A. Individually, Sam finished as the second place medalist at the district tournament and won first place medalist at the state tournament. During his senior year, the team won the district title, but finished third at the regional tournament. Individually, Sam finished second medalist at the district tournament.Coach Ronnie Schulze remembers Sam as being a great athlete in football and basketball as well. He went on to say that “Sam was the best at putting that I ever coached and my favorite boy’s golf team personality of all my coaching years.”Sam graduated from Tarleton State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. His first job was in Houston with Glazier Distribution where he worked in sales. Subsequent to that position in 1999, he started his own businesses, Texas Vet Wholesale and Lone Star Feed, which he sold in 2011. He currently works in the oil and gas industry.Sam married his wife Terri in 1993 and they have three sons, Carter 17, Carson 12, and Cayden 11. He and his family currently reside in Jacksboro, Texas.
