This last week another 7/10 inch of rain fell around the Bend.Charlene Brister reported that she and Jackie attended church on Mother’s Day and then went to Cedar Park to enjoy a lunch prepared by her grandson Bryan Benningfield for both Charlene and his mother Shari. She reported that her niece Sidonie Thorton had an accident at her school in Brownwood and broke her leg. She will be spending the next 6-8 weeks with Charlene and Jackie to recuperate.Brenda Smithhart Wilde of Alvarado was in last week to visit her grandmother Dona Mullins who is in the Eventide nursing home. She spent the night with Lesa Preece before returning home. Lesa celebrated her birthday by taking the day off and going fishing. No fish caught, but did get a nice sunburn and had a good time in her kayak. She reported that a couple of kids that she kept in her daycare spent the night with her Friday night.Roland and Randal Barnett of Coleman was in Saturday visiting with their Aunt Lola Morris and other relatives.A shower was held at the Methodist church for Ruby Hicks Saturday. Ruby received many useful gifts. A large crowd of around fifty attended the event.Mebbie Eckhoff reported that Robbie, Amy and Ethan and Ory Eckhoff will be moving to Hawley sometime soon. Amy will have a job teaching. She also reported the kids all came in for Mother’s Day.The Bend Community meeting went off as scheduled and the entertainment was wonderful. The sandwiches, and ice cream was enjoyed by everyone.Jane Clark reported on the events that took place over the weekend. Son Bobby Clark, Doug Messer, Thomas and Emerson Brister and a friend Bobby Ray got in some fishing this weekend. She was in a hurry to attend a school event in which grandson A.J. Houdyshell was going to be in Lampasas Monday morning so really didn’t get too many details about the results of the fishing.Raymond and Lewvon visited with their daughter Belinda Wierschem at her home in Mt. Pleasant, SC for a couple of weeks. They attended her surprise fiftieth birthday party that was really a surprise. Her colleagues honored her with a routine party after work on her birthday which was on May 8. Belinda insisted that was the only reminder that she wanted about being fifty. On the following Saturday the family was invited to a shrimp boil, just to remind Raymond and Lewvon what they had been missing in Texas. There Belinda found her real party and was truly surprised. She changed her mind about 50 being so bad.Bobby, Lewvon and Raymond Hicks attended Laura Beth’s school field day on Friday the 18th. Her elementary school took over the High School football stadium and competed in track and field events the entire day. Laura Beth participated in the long jump, tennis shoe fling and the three-leg 50-yard dash. She had lots of fun and so did her father and her grandparents. The best part of all for us was that she returned home to the Bend for the week end. On Saturday Laura Beth went with her grandparents to the Bend Community Meeting.Karin Risberg is finishing her year-in-Texas. She attended the prom last Saturday which was a great new experience for her. She will finish school at Lampasas on the 24th. Raymond and Lewvon are going to take her to South Carolina for a couple of weeks to visit Belinda. She will then return to Sweden. They will miss her, and feel that she will miss the Hicks family also.
