Community Garden ground-breaking held at Senior Center

A large crowd gathered Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 11 a.m. for the Community Garden ground-breaking ceremony at the Senior Center located at 704 E Storey St. in San Saba.Sharon Hayes, representing the San Saba Garden Club, opened the ceremony with the invocation, followed by opening remarks from Tama Shaw, Executive Director of Hill Country Community Action Association, Inc., recognizing officials responsible for making the Earth-Kind Garden a fruition.LCRA awarded a $24,700 grant and the City of San Saba matched in-kind funds and labor to build the Garden. It will feature a pergola, free standing adult swings, tables, benches, rainwater catchment system, beautiful gardens and more.Following Mrs. Shaw's remarks, a group of officials, with their shovels, broke the ground including: City Representatives: Manager, Stan Weik and Mayor Ken Jordan; HCCAA, Inc. Executive Director, Tama Shaw; Garden Club President, Ann McElroy; Keep San Saba Beautiful, Gail Bruner; Pergola Engineer, Ronny Pollard; and LCRA Representative, Steve Dyer.
