This past Saturday, May 5, a group of five students and three adults travelled to Abilene for the Special Olympic Track and Field events for this area. The events were being held at Elmer Gray Field on the campus of Abilene Christian University. Each participant is allowed to compete in one running or walking event, and in one field event. The boys did their running first while girls competed in the field events. After noon, the groups switched venues. Representing San Saba ISD, Christine Robertson placed 1st in the Softball Throw and 2nd in the 50m Dash. Heath Lackey placed 1st in the 50m walk and 2nd in the Softball Throw. Eric Davila placed 1st in the 50m Dash and 2nd in the Softball Throw. Adam Woodard placed 2nd in the 100m Dash and 1st in the Softball Throw. Lane Caldwell placed 1st in the 50m Dash and 2nd in the Tennis Ball Throw. These students were coached and supervised by John Daren Barker, Michelle Barker, and Melanie Mathis. All had a good and enjoyable time. The students were very proud of their medals and their accomplishments. Thank you to the parents and family members for travelling, attending, and supporting these Olympians in what they do. Thank you also to Mrs. Key and to Mrs. Shackelford for attending and showing the administrative support from San Saba ISD. Thanks again and we are already looking forward to next year.
