Richland Springs Alumni Banquet this Saturday Night
Thursday, May 10, 2012 • Posted May 10, 2012

Saturday, May 12, the Richland Springs Alumni Association will hold its annual “Alumni Banquet” in the high school gym. The festivities begin at 6:00 p.m., and all former students, teachers, staff, administrators, and friends of the Richland Springs schools are invited to attend. The graduating seniors of 2012 will be introduced, honored, and welcomed into the association, and all classes that graduated in a year ending with a “2” will be honored: 1942, 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992, and 2002. This is the 86th year for the Richland Springs Alumni Banquet which is always held on Mother’s Day weekend. In 1926 someone had the forethought to begin this wondrous occasion. The members of the graduating class of 1926 were: Kete Adams, Muriel Sullivan, H.B. Ransour, Jr., Oma Archer, Emory Murray, Tiny Taylor, Fannie Bob Taylor, Haskell Miller, Gladys Shaw, Gladys Jackson, Elture Wash, Gloria Foulger, Vera Garrett, Lucille Moore, Helen Lewis, Henry Terry, Clinton Coughran, Clyde Nettleship, Aubrey Ransom, and Herman Murray. This gathering of those who have been associated with the Richland Springs schools is a unique event to which former students continue to look forward. When the banquet first began, it was a very formal occasion and tickets had to be purchased in advance. Ex-students worked on the decorations for weeks and decorated the gym. Women shopped for a special dress and hoped to receive a corsage to compliment their dress. Today, the banquet is informal/casual to dress clothes, the meal is catered by Mac’s Bar-B-Q of Brady, and the students of the Richland Springs schools create many of the decorations that are used for the banquet. Make plans to attend the Richland Springs Alumni Banquet which will be held this coming Saturday night.
