San Saba Garden Club Holds May Day Gathering
Thursday, May 10, 2012 • Posted May 10, 2012

Members and guests met at the San Saba Garden Clubhouse in Mill Pond Park at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, but there was no cause for a May Day alarm. With President Ann McElroy presiding and Jo Colonetta, of Georgetown ready with her Floral Design presentation, the last meeting of the spring season was off to an enthusiastic beginning. After the call to order, Gail Bruner voiced the invocation. Secretary Sherie Clarkson called roll and Clione Rochat led the Club Collect and Creed. All the intriguing and colorful designs that the speaker had placed on the table had peaked the interest of the audience. When we learned the credentials of Jo Colonetta, we looked at them with new and admiring eyes! She has been an accredited National Garden Club Flower Show Judge for fifteen years and a Master Judge for two years – this is the highest designation a Judge can achieve. She is also a Master Judge from the Benz School of Floral Design from Texas A&M University. She is a member of the Capitol City Judges Council, the Violet Crown Garden Club and the Georgetown Garden Club. She is the District V Judge Administrator. But Jo has never rested on her laurels. She explained her designs and disassembled them to show us how easily (?) such designs could be achieved. And not only is Jo well-versed in floral design but she is a lot of fun and very entertaining!Following the program, hostesses Andrea Robinson, Louise Oswald, Imogene Hawkins, Noma Fitzgerald and Sharon Hayes, chair, served a delicious lunch of several kinds of quiche, French bread and fruit salad. The desserts were scrumptious cakes and no-bake cookies-to-die-for!After lunch, Ann called a brief business meeting. Though we are ready for our summer break, we still have on-going projects. We plan to meet once during the summer for a social meeting, so watch your email and the newspaper for time and place, as well as any other communication that are necessary. In the meantime, we will be getting ready for another busy, fun-filled fall-winter-spring season. If you’re not a part of this – see what you are missing? Those present were guests Jo Colonetta and her sister Shirley Matthews, members Pat Belk, Judy Brister, Gail Bruner, Jimma Byrd, Marcia Chown, Sherie Clarkson, Sharon Conyers, Marcie Cooper, Shirley Dickison, Noma Fitzgerald, Imogene Hawkins, Sharon Hayes, Fran Hulgan, Sandy Kuykendall, Carol Littlefield, Ann McElroy, Lynn McHenry, Marilyn Miller, Becky Moore, Louise Oswald, Aileen Roberts, Andrea Robinson, Clione Rochat, Jeanne Sauer, Debbie Shahan, Patricia Warren, and Anna Wilson. For information about becoming a member of the San Saba Garden Club, contact Membership Chair Carol Littlefield at 325-372-3883 or carollee@centex.net.
