36 votes were polled at Sloan May 5th. Ward Ellis Jr. (Goob) got 32 votes to carry his home box by a large majority. Mrs.Ledbetter received one more vote than her opponent, Ray Harris, and Bill McDoniel, six votes above Oris Golden.Owen Parks and P. Higgs have contracted to buy the Sloan Sisters, C.C. Pool, Deep Creek and Wilson Burnam calves to be delivered in August and October at 26 and 28 cents a pound.The Cherokee ladies baseball team won a double header over the Llano team Thursday night.New residents in the city of Richland Springs include Mr. and Mrs. Rubert Christmas and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bolinger and baby.A wool and mohair judging contest for all 4-H and FFA members in the Central Texas area will be held here Saturday, May 12 at the Hollis Blackwell Wool and Mohair Warehouse, Billy F. 69 Years AgoMay 13, 1943San Saba Study Club, co-sponsor of the county-wide public library, announces this week that the State Library has sent the local facility 100 of the newest popular books to place on the rental shelves for a period of time.It was announced this week that the Jones, Dry Goods Corp. has been dissolved as such and is now a partnership organization with F.L. Sterner, for several years manager of the Jones Dry Goods Store here , as partner in the business with G.E. Jones.Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Alderman and children of Stephenville were business visitors here last Wednesday. He purchased the old Allison place west of town last fall.Clay Kuykendall, chairman of the local War Price and Rationing Board, announces that canning sugar be obtained at all schools in San Saba county during the first week in June.

80 Years AgoMay 12, 1932R.C. Robertson and Watson Miller have formed a partnership in business and have taken over the agency for the International Harvester Co. line of farm machinery.Roy Owen and Oliver Walker are about to complete a new Filling Station on Wallace Street. This is an independent station and was formerly operated by Mr. Owen on the opposite side of the street.The Live Oak-Fairview home demonstration club had their first meeting of the month last Tuesday at the home of Mrs. E.M. Wells. This was an all day meeting for the purpose of making cheese. A picnic lunch was spread under the trees in honor of the club president, Mrs. W.A. Jones, and was enjoyed by all the club members.The Richland Springs Poultry Association organized Monday night, May 2. The following officers were elected: K.K. Taylor, president; Crede Bush, vice-president, and R.J. Powell, secretary. The directors are George Pool, G.C. Gamblin, Will Wilton, Robert Ware and Mark Coughran.
