Thursday, May 3, 2012 • Posted May 3, 2012

The San Saba High School Alumni Association is pleased to announce the presentation of an honorary membership to Ken Jordan. This award will be presented at the Rotary Club Honor Banquet to be held on May 10, 2012. Ken Jordan is continuing the livestock business his family began more than 60 years ago. He relies on traditional values like integrity, customer service and sound business principles that grew the family business to a place of prominence in the Southwest, but Jordan, a Texas A&M animal science major, has never shied away from new ideas, or doing things differently in order to help agriculture. Weekly, they host two sales in two locations and market close to 150,000 head of cattle yearly. Jordan Cattle Auction holds several replacement female sales with offerings of 3,500 head or more per sale, special stocker and feeder sales, premium weaned calf sales and select registered bull offerings throughout the year.Currently, Jordan is on the Texas Animal Health Commission and has served on the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Executive Committee (NCBA), chairman of the Texas Beef Council and president of the Texas Livestock Marketing Association. In 2000, he received the Visionary Award as the Beef Innovator of the Year from the NCBA. Before returning to the family business, which includes facilities in San Saba and Mason and other agriculture related entities, he spent time in Washington, DC with Congressman Charles Stenholm, Chief of Staff for Congressman Tom Loeffler and the Agriculture Coordinator for the Governor’s Texas State Federal Relations office in DC.Today, Jordan is very much at home in San Saba, Texas and the West Central Texas area with his wife Kynda, and their three daughters, Karoline, Kristen and Katherine. He has always had his sights set on helping beef operators stay in business and find innovate ways to market their product competitively. Ken is also active in the local community as one of the owners of Harry’s (a western store in 5 historical buildings in San Saba that was established in 1939). He also is serving as Mayor of San Saba and Chairman of the San Saba Appraisal District and a member of the San Saba Businessmen’s League and San Saba Community Foundation which is leading an effort to revitalize the local community.
