Commissioners re-instate Burn Ban

The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held on Monday, April 30th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge, Byron Theodosis, called the Court to order and welcomed everyone. County Commissioner, Rickey Lusty gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.Two concerned citizens addressed the Court. Worth Wood explained that there was a family grave stone in the Pecan Grove cemetery that was marked Woods instead of Wood. He made arrangements and had it corrected. Accompanying Worth was Mari-lynn Johanson who explained a similar situation. Her ancestor’s name is listed incorrectly on a Historical Monument located at the Courthouse. After discussion, it was agreed that the appropriate corrections need to be made and a cost estimate will be made.County Sheriff, Allen Brown, gave a report on the following:1. There was another vehicle accident fatality out by Bend on April 28th.2. The 11 year old computer at the jail broke down.3. There have been problems with radio communication from Cherokee since the narrow band frequency change.4. Gave an update on the “major criminal case” in San Saba County.5 At this time there are five in the county jail and seven out of county.6. In order to save cost, some prisoners are being held in the Upton County jail. In addition, the Upton facility will transport prisoners.7. Selected prisoners are providing labor for landscaping at the library, with supervision.8. The security changes at the jail are working very well.The Commissioners took action on the following items:A. Appointed Commissioner Kenley Kroll as an Alternate to attend Board Meetings for Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Program, Hill Country Community Action Association, Inc.B. Set new Conservation Contract Rates at $125.00 per hour.C. Tabled a discussion regarding the Texas Historical Commission Emergency Funds Award.D. Approved the Accounts Payable as presented by County Treasurer, Gayla Hawkins. E. Because of dry, windy conditions, the Court unanimously voted to inact a Burn Ban for the county. Dora Miller reported no bids to replace/repair the Courthouse roof. There was discussion regarding locating a qualified business.Commissioner Kenley Kroll is in the process of procurring two acres in Cherokee that is needed for storing equipment and supplies. The next Commissioners Court will be Monday, May 14th at 9 a.m. Judge Theodosis adjourned the court.
