A Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD was held Monday, April 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Office. President, Kim Kirk, called the meeting to order, established a Quorum present with all in attendance, welcomed everyone to the meeting, followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky, gave the invocation.
Five members of the PALS group with Mrs. Tracey Thomas, leader, presented a video that they showed at the recent Parent Academy. Their group tutors, mentors and helps younger students. Ryan Pannell, Heather Wilcox, Gisela Rodriguez, Savannah Rias, and Diana Landeros presented the video.
The following students received the April Student of The Month:
Middle School, Victoria (Tori) Garcia; High School, Heather Wilcox & Ryan Pannell.
Employees of the Month were:
Elementary, Retired Teachers, Kathy Ellis, Loy Nell Behrens, Linda Parks, Debbie Shahan, Karen Whiting and Renice Burnham; Middle School, Literacy Team, Bari McGilvray, Drew Escamilla and Penny Pulatie; High School, Dana Pannell, teacher.
Superintendent, Leigh Ann Glaze, gave the following information:
A. The next Board meeting will be May 14th, 6 p.m.
B. Distributed update information on the Building Project.
C. The Senior Banquet is April 30th; Prom will be at Soap’s Place; Graduation will be at Rogan Field, or in case of rain at the First Baptist Church.
D. Gave an update on the Literacy Grant.
E. Cafeteria changes include nothing fried or processed food, count calories, fresh food and low sodium.
F. Randy Henderson, Appraisal District, reported there have been changes in property values - will have a report April 30th.
The following Consent Agenda was approved by the Board:
1. The regular and executive meeting minutes for March 19th.
2. Amended 2011-2012 budget.
3. Allow and pay bills.
4. The Investment and Financial Report.
5. Accepted donation in the amount of $1,000.00 from the San Saba Youth Basketball program.
6. Student Transfers.
7. Resolution for election officials & election officials pay.
Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky, gave a report on Curriculum and Assessments; Cscope; 27 tests will be given before end of school; teacher’s will be involved in training and extra events during the summer months.
Elementary Principal, Kay Shackelford, reported 315 students; average attendance, 96.62%; STAAR writing was administered to grade 4 students; the literacy conference in Houston was attended by Kay Shackelford, Tracey Johnson, Brandee Worsham and Susan Barrier.
Middle School Principal, Vicki Key, reported 190 students; average attendance, 96.35%; district track meet was at Hico for 7th/8th grades; the literacy conference was a learning experience for all that attended; all students participated in OFYP April 9th; the MS Band will be going to Llano for the MS/HS Band Concert and Sight Reading Contest on April 12th; OFYP - April 16; STAAR, April 24-27; 5th/6th/7th/8th Awards will be 10:30 to 11:30 HS cafeteria May 25; 8th grade Promotion will be 2:00 in the HS cafeteria May 25.
High School Principal, Woody Martin, reported 199 students; average attendance, 96.03%; OFYP April 9th; four teachers attended literacy conference; TAKS will be in two weeks; too many activities to mention.
One old Business item was approved by the Board. Parson’s Roofing was approved to repair the White Gym at the cost of $68,518. The Board will not repair the Red Gym roof at this time.
Action was taken on the following items:
a. Signed resolution to support Commissioner concerning high stakes, standardize testing of Texas public school students.
b. Approved Summer Maintenance & Professional Development projects and budget amendments for these projects.
c. Discussed Update 93 &LocalPolicies, DAB,DAC,DH, FDB, FFB,FFH,FFI,FO
d. Approved Waiver Application for 2012-2013 Calendar 177 days.
e. Discussed bids for the SSHS classroom renovations and report from Vanguard & Associates.
