Hornets buzz Indians

The Cherokee Indian’s season came to an end Friday night with a hard-fought loss to the Lometa Hornets. The 6-40 loss was not indicative of the way the game was played. The Indians were able to move the ball against a much larger Hornet team, but failed to find the endzone until the end of the game. Defensively, the Indians did all they could do against Lometa’s spread offense. Yovane Uribe caused a fumble which was recovered by Miguel Rocha and Joey Capetillo intercepted a pass.

Lometa scored first on a 37 yard pass play with 1:08 remaining in the 1st quarter. The PAT was good. The quarter ended 0-8.

The Hornet’s 2nd quarter scores came on a 3 yard run and a 40 yard pass play. Both PATs were good. The half ended with the score 0-24.

Neither team scored in the 3rd quarter.

Lometa scored early in the 4th quarter on a 19 yard run and kicked the PAT. The Hornets added another TD with 1:20 remaining in the game on a 15 yard pass play. The PAT was good, making the score 0-40. The Indian’s only score came with 26 seconds remaining in the game as Dillon Epperson connected with Uribe for a 12 yard TD play. The PAT failed, making the score 6-40.
