Receipts totaled 1124 head for the week with no sale being held at Mason this week due to the Easter holiday. Stocker steers and heifers were steady after last week’s sharp increase. The big feeder steers were steady to $2 lower and the heifers were $3 lower after last week’s drop on the futures market due to the media coverage on the lean beef issue that made national news. By Wednesday, the futures market stabilized and rebounded and gained some dollar back that it had lost the previous 2 weeks. We are beginning to see, due to the improved range conditions, some real fat fleshy calves and yearlings and this class sold $3 to $5 lower. Packer bulls were $1 higher and packer cows were $1 higher. The bred cows were steady with the top set at $1450 and the pairs were steady and active with the top pairs at $1680.
