30 Years AgoApril 15, 1982A beautiful painting by Ron McGuffin of the Mill Pond Park waterfall is painted on the west side of the City Hall.The skeet shoot planned by the Young Farmers which was rained out has now been rescheduled for Sunday, April 18.Miss Penny Sue Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Brown of San Saba, will compete in the area "Our Little Miss Pageant," which is scheduled for Saturday, April 17 at the Coggin Memorial Theatre in Brownwood. Penny is being sponsored by the San Saba Lumber Company and she will perform a jazz/tap dance entitled "Cool" for her talent competition.Modern Way Grocery of San Saba was selected Store of the Month from a total of 8 stores. Employees will receive a $25 bonus.The Lone Star Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation announced this week that Mrs. Robert Carpenter of San Saba as Chairman of its 1982 Campaign.50 Years AgoApril 19, 1962The annual Singers Reunion of the Heart O'Texas will meet Saturday night and Sunday, April 21-22, in the High School Auditorium at Brady.The Holt community pie supper and candidates rally was deemed a big success with the pies netting $174.25, according to Roy Ware, president of the community organization.The San Saba County 4-H Club judging team scored a double victory in wool and mohair judging held at San Angelo College and at the SAC Farm on the North Concho River at San Angelo Saturday, April 14. Miss Nilah Kuykendall was elected secretary-treasurer and Miss Lucille Russell was elected press reporter.Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Neal arrived at home Friday from Brownwood, where they attended the conclave of the Commandery last week. Mr. Neal is a member of the Brownwood Commandery and reports the banquet one of the prettiest ever.W.R. Smith, our local architect, left Thursday of last week for Clayton, New Mexico, where he went to look at the country.J.M. Chadwick, for whom Chadwick Station on the Sante Fe between here and Lometa was named, was in San Saba Friday on business.Saturday afternoon Mr. W.A. Maxcey and Miss Madie Kirkpatrick were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.D. Kirkpatrick. Rev. H.E. Draper, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated.
