San Saba Garden Club enjoys Tour
Thursday, April 12, 2012 • Posted April 12, 2012

At the regular monthly meeting of the San Saba Garden Club on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, bird, bat, butterfly and gardening enthusiasts and experts John and Jimma Byrd of the Sloan Community in San Saba County, entertained, amazed, and informed those present with a virtual tour of their certified organic farm. Their excitement with their vocation/avocation is reminiscent of two kids in a candy store, though they have passed that mark chronologically and are grandparents! They are both well-versed in all aspects of creating a certified organic ecosystem, which they have done successfully on their acreage southwest of San Saba. Even if you are not a gardener, or have no hope or desire of ever being a gardener, their program would have kept you enthralled! They are ‘fun people’ and we are lucky to have them in our county! Hostesses Gail Bruner, Trish Fullerton, Becky Moore and Debbie Shahan, chair, served a delicious lunch of various salads and accompaniments, as well as tasty cupcakes for dessert. Assorted beverages were also provided. The luncheons at the garden clubhouse are always such a delight: not only are members treated to sumptuous and tasty meals in our beautiful clubhouse but each member is only called on once during the club year to perform hostess duty – unless one is especially talented and generous and offers services more often!Members attending were: Pat Belk, Judy Brister, Gail Bruner, Jimma Byrd, Nelda Edgmon, Sherie Clarkson, Marcie Cooper, Trish Fullerton, Sandy Kuyken-dall, Imogene Haw-kins, Sharon Hayes, Fran Hulgan, Ann McElroy, Lynn McHenry, Marilyn Miller, Nancy Nelson, Clione Rochat, Jeanne Sauer, Debbie Shahan, Anna Wilson, and guests Jamie Nelson and John Byrd. The last meeting of this club year will be May 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the clubhouse in Mill Pond Park. The program will be another treat. Jo Colonetta of Georgetown will have a program on “Designing and Making Your Own Container Gardens.” Container Gardens are a very ‘hot topic’ right now and those attending can be assured of gleaning wonderful ideas and inspiration. If you are not a member, look what you are missing! Come and join us – we have room for a few more.
