Thursday, April 12, 2012 • Posted April 12, 2012

Sam Houston State’s Shelby Hardy earned her second individual medalist championship of the 2011-12 season and the third title of her Bearkat career Tuesday, April 3rd. The junior took individual honors at the Houston Baptist Husky Invitational played on the par 72, 6,026-yard course at River-bend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas. After a rain delay on Monday, Hardy shot a 78 in the opening round in stormy conditions. But she came storming back in the second round, firing a 2 under par 70. On Tuesday, she finished with a 74 to win with a 54 hole total of 222 (6 over). Hardy successfully defended her title from last year’s HBU event, which was played at Sierra Plantation Country Club. This marked back to back victories for Hardy, after winning in Florida two weeks ago. Lamar fired a final round 294 to pass Sam Houston in the team standings and earn the tournament overall title Tuesday. The Cardinals 54-hole total was 910, nine strokes ahead of Sam Houston’s runner-up score of 919. Next, the Bearkats will be at the Southland Conference tournament April 16-18, which will be played at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club on the Rockin’ J Ranch Resort located just outside of Blanco, TX. The event host is Texas State.
