Literacy Grant Information for San Saba ISD

San Saba ISD was awarded a Texas State Literacy Grant in February. Twenty members of the team traveled to Houston last week to collaboratively work on creating a literacy vision for the San Saba community. Members of the team included San Saba teachers, administrators, and Head Start, Three members from the Region XV Service Center also attended as part of San Saba’s Literacy Team. The mission was to formulate a reading vision for the community of San Saba that will improve literacy in children from birth to graduation. This vision will take teamwork and the entire community to implement effectively. This is the vision that the team has created. Age 0 to School Entry1. Increase literacy at home. “Read to kids.” 2. Increase communication with parents. 3. Use data assessments and send reports. Use similar guidelines with staff training. Kindergarten to Grade 51. Get all teachers ESL certified2. Add bi-weekly targeted vocabulary enrichment to BOSS time3. Insure that all teachers are included in guided reading and analyze data to use for small group. Grade 6 to Grade 81. Common collaboration & data analysis time. 2. Administer procedures for common assessments. 3. Designated RTI TimeGrade 9 to Grade 121. Implement a HS Screening process for reading skills2. Implement an elective reading class.3. Implement AVIDThis is the formative vision that will be polished throughout the next few weeks. These goals will evolve throughout the life of the reading vision in San Saba. We appreciate all the hard work of the team. The team is excited about collaborating with the community to make our students successful. The team will be meeting soon to discuss the implementation of the vision. The literacy grant officially begins next school year, but many of the steps will begin immediately in order to effectively bring all our partners on board. Parents will be some of our biggest partners!
