San Saba Rotaray extends invitation to join flag project
Thursday, November 15, 2007 • Posted November 15, 2007

Displaying the American flag on major holidays and special occasions, plus the Armadillo High School flag on Football Fridays, has been a proud tradition in our community for over 17 years. The Rotary Club of San Saba offers the citizens of our community the ability to join in that proud tradition during 2008 and to demonstrate the community pride and spirit that has always characterized San Saba.

Members of the Rotary Club offer flag services to businesses and individual citizens. For an annual fee of $35.00 for one flag or $65.00 for both, members of the Club will put up and take down “Old Glory” on ten major U.S. holidays and the ten Football Fridays. The Armadillo flag program is conducted in conjunction with the San Saba High School student body. The cost may be treated as a tax deductible donation to the Rotary Club.

The Flag Project is an important fundraiser for the Rotary Club, which has a long history of supporting many worthwhile civic activities and events. In 2007, the Club sponsored the Heritage Celebration; held the 27th Annual Honor Student Banquet for over 300 students, parents and teachers; provided three scholarships totaling $2,250; and, donated $3,403 for other school activities. In addition, $1,307 was donated to local entities including the San Saba Volunteer Fire Dept., San Saba County Young Farmers, Meals on Wheels, Angel Tree, Venturing Crew 55, Cherokee Home for Children, American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross. Essentially, all funds collected by the Rotary Club are returned to the community.

The Rotary Club Motto is “Service Before Self” and its members endeavor to conduct their daily business and lives by a four way test asking “Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Does it build good will? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?” The Club is looking for new members and invites citizens interested in providing community service to join and attend its meetings. The Rotary meets each Thursday from noon to 1:00 p.m. at VeeBee’s Restaurant on High Street. Join us anytime for a free lunch as a guest of the Club.

Rotary Club officers include: Enedina Diaz, President; Kevin Shahan, Secretary/Treasurer; Harold Yates, Vice President and Flag Chairman; and Rocky Whitely, Activity Coordinator. Please call 325-623-5621 with any questions or to receive a sign-up form.
