Never Surrender 5K Walk/Run a huge success
Thursday, March 29, 2012 • Posted March 29, 2012

It started out on a beautiful morning at the Mill Pond Park pavilion. Registration began at 8 am and all participants were given T-shirts. Over 200 participants signed up to walk and run. Sam Crosby led them in prayer and addressed the crowd with very emotional and touching words, reminding the participants the reason for being there was to raise funds and awareness to fight cancer. The national anthem was played by the trumpet duo of Emiliano Zapata and Tanner Hawkins. Race Day Event Services set up the Start and Finish line and also provided timing chips to be worn on the participants shoes. When the participants crossed the finish line it submitted the data to their computers and the official results were registered. They also provided a digital display clock at the finish line so each person could see their time. The horn sounded and off they went lead by Dwayne Shaw. They were met at the main intersections by some volunteer members of the San Saba Fire Department and Ray Riggs of the City Police Department who so graciously assisted them through the intersections. Hoffpauir Outdoor Superstore and T Noel Wood provided transportation for the survivors and to anyone that needed assistance along the way. As they approached the halfway mark the TDCJ –ID employees: Christopher Daniels and son Cutter, Kimberly Danford and Franky Sanchez were there to offer water to everyone. Water was donated by Mike Thomas State Farm.. A big thank you goes to the businesses that sponsored this event: Commercial National Bank, McKinnerney Real Estate, First Central Credit Union, Diggs Restaurant & Club, Texas Mavricks, Everett’s Pharmacy, Cactus Restaurant, Coronado Stone Wood, Ellett Wildlife Control, Sonic Drive-in and Coca Cola and San Saba Printing. Thanks to the City of San Saba and Farrell Whitley for their assistance at the park. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Relay for Life sponsored by the American Cancer Society. If you didn’t get to participate and would like to donate you still can do so by donating to the Relay for Life at Commercial National Bank. A big thank you to all of the sponsors, helpers and participants for a successful event. “You have the right, to stand up and fight, and to NEVER SURRENDER” Pictures of the event may be viewed atdshahanphotos@zenfolio.com
