Students and community members were treated to a STAAR Rally last week. Teachers and faculty entertained students with their strategies to beat the test! Seniors did a skit encouraging students to get rest and do their best. If you weren’t there you missed a good show!Below are the results of the past week’s HS and JH track meets:JH Menard meet:Tori Morrison-1st discus, 2nd 200m dash; Sophia Monroe-4th high jump, 4th 300m hurdles; Kerry Hamilton-1st 100m dash, 1st long jump, 2nd shot put; Rolando Davis-2nd discus; Tommy Henegar-3rd 2400m run; J.D. Bell-3rd 300m hurdles; Hamilton, Davis, Bell and Uriel Arredondo-3rd 400m relay HS Menard meet:Libby Lasley-1st 3200m run, 1st 800m run; Barbara Uribe-1st 1600m run, 2nd 800m run; Nishady Lanza-3rd 300m hurdles, 4th 100m hurdles, 5th shot put; Ashlyne Lanza-4th 200m dash, 4th 100m dash, 4th long jump; Talli Morrison-5th 400m dash, 2nd discus, 3rd shot put. Uribe, A. Lanza, N. Lanza and Lasley-1st 800m relay Israel Trinidad-2nd 800m run, 5th 1600m run; Andy Dozier-1st 3200m run, 3rd 1600m run; Payton Tatsch-1st triple jump, 3rd long jump; Stephen Austermann-4th discus, 4th shot put; Ryan Breadner-2nd discus, 3rd shot put; Tatsch, Bobby Hamilton, Cham Fox and E.J. Borchers-1st 400m relay, 1st 800m relay, 1st 1600m relay. Cherokee boys won the track meet championship.Ag teams competed in their first-ever wildlife and horse judging competitions at the district event at Tarleton last week. Cherokee is proud to have both teams advance to the Area competition. The wildlife team consisting of Ryan Breadner, Barbara Uribe, Stephen Austermann and Paco Castro placed 2nd. Austermann was the team’s point leader. The horse judging team, Talli Morrison, Emily Skaggs, Lauryn Tatsch and Megan Oliver placed 5th. Morrison was the team’s point leader. The wildlife team will compete at College Station on April 10th, and the horse judging team will compete at College Station on April 14th. The District Academic UIL competition was held at Knippa last week. Congratulations to T.J. Jackson, who placed 3rd in the Computer Science competition. Jackson and teammates Libby Lasley and Bobby Hamilton advanced to the Regional competition which will be held on April 21. The Number Sense and Calculator teams consisting of E.J. Borchers, Bobby Hamilton, Jorge Labrador and Libby Lasley placed 3rd and 4th, respectively. Lasley place 5th in Calculator. Talli Morrison placed 6th in Accounting. Ashlyne Lanza placed 6th in Ready Writing. This week is a busy STAAR and EOC testing week. Ninth graders will test on Monday and Tuesday. Seventh and eighth graders will test on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tenth graders will test on Thursday. Good luck to all testers.HS tracksters will travel to May on Friday for their final track meet before District.
