Steel Magnolias Steals the Show

On March 21st, 2012, the Richland Springs High School One Act Play traveled to Coleman, Texas, to perform in the Zone Contest which included five area schools. Serving as adjudicators on a panel of three were Jim Rambo and Kelly Parker from McClennan Community College in Waco, and Dr. Michael Carmichael from Graham, Texas. Dakota Bryant from Waco served as the Contest Manager. This is the first year in history that the state UIL has encouraged panel judging for the One Act Play Contest. All levels except Area may havepanel judging this year, and panels will be required at the Regional and State levels. Shows presented were The Dancers by Lohn, Crimes of the Heart by Eden, Good-Bye to the Clown by Rochelle, You Can’t Take It With You by Menard, and Steel Magnolias by Richland Springs. Richland Springs High School was named the first advancing play as they received a ranking of number “1” from all three judges. Menard was named the additional advancing play.Each member of the Richland Springs cast was honored to receive a medal. Melanie Hedley, who plays Clairee, DeAnna Grady, who plays Annelle, and Brooke Vaughn, who plays Truvy, all received Honorable Mention All Star Cast Medals. Brooklyn McGinty, who plays Ouiser, and Katelynn Teel, who plays Shelby, received All-Star Cast Medals. Sara Hedley, who plays the mother, M’Lynn, received the coveted “Best Actress” award and a full scholarship to McClennan Community College. Richland Springs and Menard will next compete in Sonora, Texas, on Monday, April 2nd. Plays begin at 1:00, and we hope to see you there!
