A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD was held Monday, March 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Office. President, Kim Kirk, called the meeting to order, established a quorum with everyone present, welcomed everyone to the meeting followed by the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Kevin Shahan gave the invocation. Mrs. Colleen Womack, High School Technology teacher, introduced students who presented a video, The World at our Fingertips, that was also shown at the recent Parent Academy. The presentation explained the use of their laptop computers, and the advantages of having “the world at their fingertips.” The presentation was given by Karlee Cromer, Alexa Maxcey, Kristin Reynolds with McKenzie Hibler and Joannah Crosby absent. The following students were awarded the Student of the Month for March:Marshall McIntosh and Karlee Cromer, High School.Hollee Ragsdale, Middle School.Leonardo Hilario, Elementary.Employee of the Month was awarded to Tracey Thomas, High School; Flicka Correa and Gloria Mendiola, Middle School. Superintendent, Leigh Ann Glaze, reported the following: A. The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Monday, April 19th at 6 p.m. B. The Board viewed sketches and discussed an update on the building project. C. The staff development plan was discussed. D. Superintendent Glaze will attend The Lamar Academy Conference this month. E. SSISD advertised for bids to demolish one property and purchase/removal of two properties to make way for the building project. There were no bids to purchase/removal; bids to demolish all three properties was discussed and the lowest bid was selected to go to Armadillo Trucking. The following Consent Agenda was approved:a. The regular and executive meeting minutes of February 13th.b. Amended 2011-2012 budget for Literacy Grant and Summer Training.c. Pay bills presented to Board.d. The financial report presented to the Board.e. Accepted a $1,000.00 donation from Boosters to the Girls Softball Team.f. Set the date of May 15th to canvass May 12th election at noon.g. Distributed ballots to vote for three places open on Region 15 Board of Directors. Mr. John Clawson is on the ballot. Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky submitted a report for Curriculum and Assessment; CSCOPE. Bohensky is a member of the State Accountability Committee.A letter from John N. King, External CIT, Early Retired Superintendent was distributed. King expressed sincere appreciation to Superintendent Glaze and the San Saba school board for allowing him to serve as a consultant at SSISD for the past two years. He also commended Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky and the staff on the work they are doing.A report on Elementary AYP progress was discussed.High School Principal, Woody Martin reported 197 students and 96.19% attendance; UIL Literacy contest is this week competing at Hico High School; STAAR will be given March 26th & 27th; One Act Play competes on Saturday in Hamilton; The Mentoring groups are involved in service projects for the community; the Academic Booster Club will be having another ABC hamburger feast for the students that have been able to keep a 4.2 GPA; Every A Counts lunch will be in a week or two at the Auction Barn. Vicki Key, Middle School Principal, reported 191 students and 96.87% attendance; the 2012-2013 Cheerleaders are: Kassidy Ellis, Raley Kirk, Kimeri Moore, Raylee Bailie Santeufemia, Analyn Bohensky and Syndie Norris; the Track Team has had meets in Early and Goldthwaite and will be to Zephyr on March 19th with District track in Hico on March 31st; STAAR testing will begin on March 27th and March 28th; TELPAS will be on March 29th. Kay Shackleford, Elementary Principal, reported 308 students and 96.68% attendance; the San Saba Rotary Club gave each third grader their very own dictionary; The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) is a test administered to our students who are English language learners; Grade 4 students will be taking the STAAR writing test; the spring box tops received resulted in over $500, with money going toward field trips; the Parent Academy was a great event for students, staff and parents. Discussed proposals from Parson’s Roofing for the White Gym and Red Gym roofing needs.5. Discussed recommended improvements and guidelines for cafeteria.President, Kim Kirk adjourned the Board meeting at 7:30 p.m. for members to attend the performance of the high school One Act Play. In the Executive Session, which was held after the performance, the Board approved contracts for teachers. They also regretfully accepted the following resignations effective at the end of the school year: Tiffany Haley, High School Math; Woody Martin, High School Principal; Miki Martin, Instructional Coach.
