Jerome and Shirley Meischen had their daughter, Ralene and her children Quincee and Blake visiting this past weekend. Their granddaughter Quincee spoke at the Bend Methodist Church about her mission trip to Jos, Nigeria Africa. She spent two weeks with the Rafiki orphanage where she taught the children. She also felt that she had learned from them. She felt blessed to do God’s work and was very thankful for all the support and prayers. Needless to say Jerome and Shirley are very proud of their granddaughter.
Last Monday night 35 people enjoyed the Bend club dinner at the home of William and Jane Clark. Jane reported that eight children enjoyed swimming while the adults visited. Daughter-in-law Melissa and grandchildren Eli and Silas Clark spent Monday night with the Clark family. She and the children were returning home from a week stay in Corpus Christi with her parent’s Earl and Marsha Littleton who were there on vacation.
On Tuesday, Jane, Jamie, Andrew and A.J. Houdyshell, Doug, Kristi, Jordan and Jaylee Messer stopped in Bastrop and had dinner with Danny Clark. They picked up the key to the condo and proceeded on to Galveston where they spent the rest of the week before returning home this past Friday.
Jesse Clark of Dora, N. M., whose parents are Bobby and Kit Clark; Jerry and Myra Skinner ,and the grandson of Jane and William Clark, will be competing in the 60th Annual National High School Finals rodeo which is the world’s largest youth rodeo in Farmington, N.M. Jesse's horse trainer Sylvester Mayfield said. “ He’s an awesome roper and has won about everything a young roper can win.” Jesse finished the season with the second best calf roping score in New Mexico. In addition to competing in the National High School Finals Rodeo later this month Jesse was selected to the 2007-2008 Wrangler High School all-star rodeo team, the first corporate-sponsored youth rodeo squad. He also received a $250 scholarship from the American Quarter Horse Association.
The home of Rufus and Tommye Cobern has been a very busy place. Rex and Jill Toppy of San Antonio; grandson, Adam, and his family from Huffman; Jeffery, Tanya and Ashley Chalfant of Cedar ; and Kerry Marley of Katy, have all visited recently. Tommye reported that there was just enough time in between the visits to do the laundry and replenish the pantry for the next visitor.
Reports of people on the ailing list are J.C. Barefoot who is at home and is still about the same and Jane Clark reported that Darnell Boyd of Lometa is having serious health problems. These people and their families need to be kept on your prayer list.
Bill and Jo Price was in Brownwood on business last Wednesday and while there visited Gloria Lemons who was in the Brownwood hospital. Gloria reported that she had suffered a collapsed lung and was suffering from a form of pneumonia, but was feeling much better and looking forward to moving into a nursing home there in Brownwood.
Barbara Jones reported that her son, Garry, and daughter-in-law ,Julia Jones, of Mesquite would be spending a few days with her this week. They were in Midland visiting friends and would be stopping by for a few days before returning to Mesquite.
Jen Scroggins and children, Thackery and Marley Jane, of Florida are visiting in the home of grandparents, Dennis and Glenda Scroggins.
Mebbie Eckhoff reported that she and Leon attended the wedding reception for Anna Marie Adams and Vincent Gould. The reception was held at San Saba Pecan.
Bob and Doris Poe paid a visit to her Aunt Lola Morris Sunday afternoon. Bob and Doris also visited the Alamosa Winery to check it out. Doris reported visiting old homeplaces before returning for refreshments of coffee and cake - no wine.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Chris Mayben and twins, Nicholas and Brady Freeland, who will celebrate a birthday July 25; to Steve Boyd whose birthday is July 29, and to Mike Allen Byrd who will celebrate a birthday July 30. Congratulations go out to Jack and LaNell Daniels whose anniversary is July 27.
