Jackie Glen Williams

Mr. Jackie Glen Williams, age 72, of Lometa, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at his home. Jackie was born October 24, 1935 in Lometa, the son of Vernon Williams and Rosa Lee Smith Williams. Jackie married Margaret Nell Cooper on July 19, 1959 in Brownwood, Texas. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.

Jackie attended school in Lometa and later graduated from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, where he played football and was team captain. Jackie then began coaching in public schools around Central Texas. Jackie first coached in Goldthwaite, Texas, where he was a track coach and led his athletes to a state championship in 1966. Lampasas was his next stop as a coach and then on to Copperas Cove for the next five years. Jackie then moved to Evant, Texas, to serve as superintendent for the next 21 years. Jackie then went on to obtain his real estate license and entered that business and had been doing so since 1980, maintaining offices in Goldthwaite and Lometa.

He was an elder at Church of the Hills in Lometa for many years. Jackie held membership in Lion's Club, Masonic Lodge, and Texas Board of Realtors. He also was a life member of Community School Association, and was selected as "Superintendent of the Year" for Region 12.

Jackie is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Lometa; two daughters: Cindy Sheldon and husband, Dennis, of Evant; and Brenda Faubion and husband, Ray, of Lometa; one son, Mike Williams, and wife, Darla, of Goldthwaite; two brothers: Leonard Williams and wife, Lu Ann, of Lometa; and Gene Williams and wife, Lisa, of Comanche; sister-in-law, Mollie Williams of Lometa; and grandchildren: Leah Sheldon Yocham and husband, Yale; Lanna Sheldon, Michael Williams, Jonathon Williams, Charles Jack (CJ) Faubion, and Brandon Faubion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Darrell.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Church of the Hills in Lometa, with Pastor Kevin Martin and Bishop Kenneth Phillips officiating. Interment followed at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa.
