50 Years AgoMarch 22, 1962Deputy Sheriff Ben Blossman made a statement to the newspaper to warn San Saba county citizens about admitting strangers into their homes. Some people who are believed to be Gypsies, posed as "rubbing doctors" robbed an elderly man in Richland Springs of his money. A party at Bend reported the loss of money and an elderly couple was also robbed in San Saba.The city of San Saba and surrounding areas received a white wash of snow last week when Winter made a surprise visit with a three to four inch snowfall.Mrs. Richard Adams was in the back yard of her home in Cherokee and felt something brush against her legs. She looked down to discover it was a skunk. When she started to move, it grabbed her foot. She got it loose but it just grabbed her again, so she caught it by the back of the neck and on its back and spread it out on the ground until her husband could come and help her, but not until it had bitten her three times. Avery Low and Charles Randolph took it to Austin and it was rabid. Net proceeds from the sale will be used to buy bombers which will be named Tex as Jaycee No. 1, No. 2, etc., and will be given to Uncle Sam for use against the Axis.Fourteen men from San Saba county were sworn in for service in the U.S. Army on Monday, March 22 at the Abilene induction center.
