Hawkins earns rank of Eagle Scout

On Saturday, March 17th, at 6 p.m., Tanner Hawkins, son of Randal Hawkins and Gayla Hawkins both of San Saba, and a member of Troop 55 of the Boy Scouts of America, was honored at the Eagle Court of Honor at the First Methodist Church in San Saba.Jim Childress, Council Committee Member Pecan Valley District, Texas Trails Council, welcomed the approximately 75 people in attendance. Rev. Debby Lake, Pastor, First United Methodist Church, San Saba, gave the invocation, benediction, responsive reading and the blessing of the meal. The Eagle Court of Honor Program included Brian Rogers, Life Scout, Troop 55, led the Scout Oath & Law; Greg McGregor, VP Membership & Relations, Texas Trails Council, gave the Eagle Scout Requirements and presented Tanner Hawkins with the Eagle Certificate, pin, scarf, and flag that was flown over the capitol building in Austin, Texas; Randal Hawkins, Scoutmaster Troop 55, the Eagle Charge; Doug Moore, Sr., District Executive, Pecan Valley District, TTC, the Eagle Challenge. Posting of Colors and Retirement of Colors was conducted by members of the Webelos Scouts, Pack 55. The Eagle Scout requirements included 21 merit badges, each badge with many requirements. One of Tanner's accomplishments for a merit badge included working with the San Saba Garden Club (which his grandmother, Imogene Hawkins, is a member) restore their scrapbooks and also made a special two-sided wooden shelf to display them. Eagle Scout Hawkins stated that many of his “buddies” joined scouting together but he was the only one remaining in his age group.Six Eagle Scouts attended the Court of Honor. They were Jim Childress, Brian Sours, Mike McHenry, Lee McHorse, Forrest McGregor and Tanner Hawkins. The following benediction concluded the program followed by a buffet: “And now, may the blessings of our Great Scoutmaster rest upon each of us and upon all Scouts and may we always follow the trail of honor and service. A good Scout is prepared (we are prepared); A good Scout does at least one good turn daily (it has been done); Then you are charged to go forth for God, your country, your home, and your fellow Scouts (Good night).”
