30 Years AgoMarch 18, 1982The Fellowship of Christian Women will have the opportunity to hear a dynamic speaker, Mrs. EK Jones of Horseshoe Bay on Thursday, March 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in San Saba.Put on your boots and get ready for some good foot-tappin' music. Country star John Anderson will be in concert Monday, March 22 in San Saba for the second annual hospital benefit concert.Artist Ron McGuffin tackled a big "canvas" this week... the side wall of Harry Shapiro's Ladies Store. McGuffin, who was commissioned to do this Central Texas painting by San Saba National Bank, has done several murals in this area. When completed, this particular piece of art will sport local favorites such as cowboys, cattle and armadillos.There will be a community meeting and covered dish supper at Bend school house Saturday, March 20, beginning at 6:30 p.m., with a special invitation to the 23 families who are new to the area or have recently moved into new homes.68 Years AgoMarch 18, 1943It was learned yesterday that AJ Traut, for years a distributor of butane gas here and at Richland Springs, has sold his business, gas truck and storage tank, to Garth Little of WT Little & Sons, who have been operating butane service here and in the county at large for some time.Herman J. Dunnahoo writes his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hart Dunnahoo, that he has passed his test and he is now a Pharmacist's Mate 3-C. He is stationed at Pearl Harbor and is very happy with his work.Miss Orpha Miller of Richland, formerly employed at the Hotel San Saba Coffee Shop, has been employed at the Estep Hardware and Furniture Store for some time.Mrs. Joe Vogel left last week for California to be near her husband who is stationed at Camp Haan.HG Doran has accepted a position at Gatesvsille and his wife and family plan to move there in the near future.100 Years AgoMarch 14, 1912Oliver Dunn, a brother of Mrs. Gregg Halden, arrived Friday from Del Rio to make his home in San Saba.AV Riley left Sunday for Waco. He is selling San Saba cedar and reports a nice business while on the road recently.S. Kirsch, manager of the electric light plant at Marble Falls, has been in San Saba this week looking over the equipment and methods of management of the San Saba plant. The plant at Marble Falls belongs to JE Odiorne, the new cashier of the San Saba National Bank.Miss Ruby Kirkpatrick treated her little kindergarten class to see the train come in Tuesday morning.Kelly-Burleson Co. report the purchase by WE Campbell of the E. Campbell ranch on the San Saba river about 25 miles above San Saba. The ranch comprises about 10,000 acres of fine grass land and fronts on the river. The purchase price was six dollars an acre, or approximately $60,000.
