What a wonderful start to the season this year. I couldn’t be prouder of our Lady Dillo softball players. We started the year beating Brady 14-1 in an offensive onslaught. We followed that up by beating a very good DeLeon team 6-1. We traveled to the Stephen-ville tournament the second week of the season. This tournament had 24 teams classified anywhere from 1A to 5A. We opened the tournament playing Granbury and blanked them 9-0 behind strong pitching from Nickie Ortiz and timely hitting by the entire lineup. We then played Hamilton and won 17-0. We rounded out the pool play phase by beating Jim Ned 7-0. It was a great way to start off the tournament. We went into Saturday’s bracket play as the number 1 overall seed. We open-ed bracket play against Stephen-ville and lost a tough game 5-4. We then moved on to play San Angelo Central and lost 11-0. We finished the Stephenville tournament 3-2 and got plenty of great experience.The next game we traveled to Menard. We got the win 12-0 be-hind a No-Hitter thrown by Nickie Ortiz. It was a fantastic pitching performance. Everyone in the lineup contributed either a hit or a run scored to the winning effort.We then traveled to the Goldthwaite tournament. We opened up pool play playing a very good Eastland team. We got the victory 6-1. We then went on to play Tolar and won 12-2. We rounded out pool play with Hamilton. We got the victory 12-4. Going 3-0 in pool play allowed us to play in the championship game. We played Austin Hyde Park and won 11-1 in 5 innings. This was the first Tournament trophy in San Saba softball history. I was extremely proud of the girls. We open district play 3/5 against Hico at their place. Then 3/9 we travel to Comanche for our second district ballgame.
