Thursday, March 8, 2012 • Posted March 8, 2012

The San Saba County Relay for Life committee met on Thursday, March 1, 2012 with Michele Whitley, Event Chair, conducting the meeting. There were several teams represented and special guest from the American Cancer Society office, Ashlee Etheridge, presented the teams from the Cherokee Home and Performance Talent gifts for their fund-raising efforts.Ms. Etheridge challenged the group to become a 5 Star Relay. The relay teams accepted her challenge. The organization has already met a portion of the challenge, but they need San Saba County to get on board to meet the other requirements. They are as follows: raise at least $20,000, have 11 teams or more, and have 21 survivors participating, knowing how competitive San Saba County is, the relay teams feel confident in reaching and surpassing these goals. How can you as a citizen help with this endeavor? You need to simply do the following:• Form a team and join in the effort to fight back against this disease that affects us all.• Support the Relay for Life teams' fund-raisers.• Purchase luminaries to honor those who have lost the battle or who have survived this dreaded disease.• Attend the Relay for Life event on April 13th and "Walk for the Cause."The organization is collecting names of cancer survivors and caregivers, so they can send them a special invitation to attend a dinner in their honor on April 9th and present them with a T-shirt. The shirts have to be ordered by March 15th. You may turn the names into Donna Blossman at dblossman@yahoo.com or call 325-623-5429 or Michele Whitley at fmwhitley@yahoo.com or call 325-372-4533.The next fundraiser will be the 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, March 17th.
