Local Veterans receive surprise visit from State Representative
Thursday, March 8, 2012 • Posted March 8, 2012

Sid Miller, State Representative of Stephenville, TX, paid a surprise visit to the veterans of the Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27 of the American Legion on Friday, February 17th. Under the new district guidelines, San Saba County will soon be in State District No. 59. Representative Miller met with the crowd and spoke on the several changes that will not only affect citizens in San Saba County but Texas as a whole.Mr. Miller explained that Texans made their voices clear last November that they desired a leaner, more efficient government and a return to traditional values. Some of the highlights of the 82nd Texas Legislature included a balanced budget, passage of a voter ID at the polls, legislation reaffirming our state sovereignty and added protections for citizens to keep and bear arms.Miller made it clear that he was a staunch conservative and was pro family, pro life, anti crime, and pro law enforcement. In fact, Miller served as chair of the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee. He reported that the lawlessness on the border with Mexico has reached epidemic proportions. Thousands of people have been tortured and murdered by the existing drug cartels.Mr. Miller spoke of one his proudest accomplishments which was passage of House Bill No. 15. This bill requires doctors to give women all necessary information, including a sonogram before performing an abortion except in an emergency. This is perhaps the strongest type of pro life legislation passed by any state in the union. The next meeting of the American Legion will be on Tuesday, April 10th. The Department Adjutant, William "Bill" West, will be traveling from Austin to address the veterans. This will be only the second time a state officer has visited the post in recent memory.
