Jean Sowers 87, of San Saba, Texas passed away Monday, February 28, 2012. Jean was born January 17, 1925 in Lampasas County, Texas the daughter of Robert Alexander Broyles and Leola Keeney Broyles. Jean spent her childhood in San Saba County, where she attended school. Jean attended business school in Austin, Texas. Then she and Beverly Sowers were married. Their home was made complete with the arrival of Bruce and Robin, who enjoyed their military lifestyle of travel. Jean had a full life after she began her ranching career. Jean enjoyed her ranch as well as many civic activities which included being instrumental in the formation of the San Saba County Volunteer E.M.S.; managed the Chamber of Commerce of San Saba for 10 years; spent 18 years as Secretary and Treasurer of Property Owners Association; received recognition as “Woman of the Decade of 1970’s” in the Chamber of Commerce; member of Rotary Club and former President; and was local weather observer for the National Weather Service for forty years.Jean is survived by her two children, Bruce Sowers of San Saba and Robin Conner of Abilene; two cousins, Jolene Lively and Charlene Reavis.Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly Sowers; one sister, Mozelle Avery; and her parents, Robert Alexander Broyles and Leola Keeney Broyles.Funeral services were held Thursday, March 1, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at the Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel, 1205 South High, San Saba, Texas; with Larry Conner and Edward Ragsdale officiating. Visitation was held prior to service at 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel.
