One of the performers at the First ever “San Saba River Pecan Fest” returns on this Saturday to play at the San Saba Trade Days downtown from ten to noon, and then takes the stage at The Bar D Brewhouse from seven to nine that evening.Known for his electrifying Stage Presence (he teaches Seminars on the subject) Tony blends his acclaimed Songwriting with familiar favorites by Merle Haggard, Jim Croce, and Roger Miller, and modern masters like Walt Wilkins and Robert Earl Keen. His strong vocals, great guitar work and stunning imagery earned his 2006 CD “All In” the nomination for “Singer/Songwriter of The Year” by The Academy Of Texas Music, and readers of the West Texas publication Blues and Rock Gazette have voted him “Musician of The Year”and “Entertainer of The Year”.Barker’s original song, “San Saba River”, about being a Songwriter in the Club scene, has become a lightning rod for The Unexpected; radio airplay under nearly mythical circumstances, invitations to perform with legendary Texas Songwriters like Bob Livingston (The Lost Gonzo Band), Kenny Maines, Gurf Morlix, and Walt Wilkins. Preparations for the Pecan Fest led to re-connecting with an old friend from his Radio Days - our own Director of Economic Development and Tourism, Tony Guidroz - and the invitation to play here with Asleep At The Wheel.“It’s been a wild ride,” says Barker “and there’s been some serious challenges, but the blessings have been overwhelming, and I can’t wait to see what God has planned for me next!”
