San Saba High School Tennis Report
Thursday, March 1, 2012 • Posted March 1, 2012

This past week the San Saba High School tennis team played three 3A schools in team tennis matches in preparation for the region V team tennis tournament on March 2-3. San Saba played Llano, Bellville, and Waco Robinson. On Monday, February 20, the tennis team defeated Llano 20 to 2. On Saturday, February 25, the tennis team played 13th ranked 3A Bellville at 8:00 a.m. After the doubles matches Bellville led 6 to 1. Joannah Crosby and Marshal McIntosh won the doubles match playing mixed doubles. Bellville didn’t let up by winning all 12 singles matches. Our kids competed well but Bellville had too much depth as there was not much difference between their number 1 thru number 6 players on both boys and girls side. In the afternoon on Saturday, the tennis team played 22nd ranked Waco Robinson. The team competed well but fell to Robinson 15 to 4. Winning matches against Robinson were Lauren Dawson and Joely Haverland at number 1 girls doubles, Joannah Crosby and Marshal McIntosh at number 1 mixed doubles, Joannah Crosby at number 2 girls singles and Aaron Krueger at number 5 boys singles. We played two very good teams on Saturday and we learned a lot on what we need to work on to get better. These matches should help us get ready for the regional 2A and under team tennis tournament that will be held on March 2-3.San Saba will play Thrall in the first round of the regional tournament. The match will start at 8:30 a.m. at Leander High School. We hope everyone can come out and support the dillos as they seek to make it to the state team tournament for the 16th straight year. Teams playing in the Region V Team Tournament are Brock, Lago Vista, Florence, Thrall, Godley, Early, and San Saba. The top two teams will advance to the state team tournament on March 9-10.
