San Saba County Sheriff's Report
Thursday, February 23, 2012 • Posted February 23, 2012

Thank you Lord for the wonderful rain we all received this week. I was really glad to see all the wet stuff falling from the sky and to be able to report that we had no accidents during this weather. We did have just a few issues with high water but they were handled by the city and the commissioners as quickly as they were reported.I need to clear up the situation involving the posting of the trespassing signs now posted around the jail. The San Saba County Jail is not a public place, even though it is an historical marker. We do have individuals who use the front of the jail and make reports and visit those who are in our care, but it is not a public place. I posted the signs due to the fact that individuals have been coming on to the property and hiding contraband in attempts to get these items inside the jail. In order to arrest these individuals, the property must be posted. It also is a safety concern for our employees when entering or leaving the jail at night, due to the shifts that we work. I do not mean to offend anyone and we still have service for the public at the front door or the east side of the jail, but I feel that this was a necessary step towards dealing with a situation that has been a problem for years.I want to thank all those in Cherokee and those from San Saba who attended the basketball challenge game Friday night. I would like to report that the San Saba Sheriff's Office, Team 911 won the game, but that's not quite the way it happened. Cherokee was victorious in our battle but we made sure that they knew that they were in a ball game. Yet, that's probably only because they had to keep jumping over our bodies scattered up and down the court. I want to thank all my staff for all their hard work and dedication to our goals. We had a large number of staff and family members show up to coach, play or cheer (and yes, maybe laugh, Tony Jacobs) but we all had a wonderful time. I am looking forward to the rematch and hopefully this next time the girls that play for Coach Martin won't be able to dunk the ball. I should be able to run again by this time next year Coach, so watch out.I also want to let everyone know that the Sheriff's Office will be hosting the first ever Dodge Ball Tournament here in San Saba sometime in March. Yes, that's right, Dodge Ball, and we are so hoping that those individuals from Cherokee will be playing. We will be following up with the details and hope to host at least ten teams this first year, so please look for the information and let's all have some fun playing ball.I want to thank everyone for their prayers and support and for all the calls with information which allow us to better do our jobs. Please continue to call us with anything that you need and you can reach us at 325-372-5551 or 5432.
