30 Years AgoJanuary 28, 1982Five ladies played golf Thursday, January 21. Dean Kirk won low gross and Gladys Stewart won low net. Other players were Jeanette Askey, Wallace Parks and Dorothy Sterner. New yearbooks can be picked up at the clubhouse.George Amthor III and Jack Miller met with commissioners court at their January meeting and discussed applications for state funds to lengthen the air strip at the city-county airport. The Commissioners accepted the resignation of Ellis Hooten from Pct. 2. Dora Hunt was approved for employment at Rylander Library through May 1982. County auditor Henry Collier presented the 1980-81 audit, which was examined and approved.Firemen responded to a 7:15 a.m. call to the Westgate Grocery Thursday morning, January 21. Hatler, formerly part owner of the shop, sold his interest and with his family moved to Abilene.The Simmons Drug Store has added another beautiful show case to their store fixtures. Mr. and Mrs. Hazlett are trying to improve their business in every way.Miss Irene Hamrick has a position in the dental parlors of Dr. C.M. Oliver.
