On Jan. 24, the Dillos hosted the Early Longhorns. This was an exciting game and it came down to the wire. In the first quarter, the Longhorns started out started out hot from the 3-point line hitting one on their first three possessions and took a 9-2 lead. We handled their press pretty good and took a 20-15 lead after one quarter. In the second quarter, the Dillos increased their lead by as much as 16 points but after a few turnovers and some more threes by Early, the Dillos went in at the half up 35-28. In the third and fourth quarters, Early fought back, and late in the fourth Early hit a shot with about 40 seconds left and took the lead 61-60. After a timeout, the Dillos set up their offense and ran about 25 seconds off the clock trying to get an open shot. With 13 seconds remaining, Ryan Pannell received a pass at the high post and took the ball to the basket for a backside layup. Early got the ball back for one last shot and missed and the Dillos won 62-61. Ryan Pannell led the Dillos with 16 pts, followed by Luke Cox with 15 pts, Clayton Perry with 11 pts, JT Mathis with 6 pts, Tanner Hawkins with 5 pts, Zack Davis with 4 pts, Aaron Perez with 3 pts, and Kelan Verette with 2 pts. On Jan. 27, the Dillos traveled to Dublin to take on the Lions. Dublin is leading the District with an undefeated record. The first time we played them at home, we gave them a run for their money but ended up a little short. This time, the Dillos got off to a slow start offensively. Dublin took a 17-3 lead after the first quarter and had a halftime lead of 32-10. We played much better in the second half, outscoring Dublin 13-10 in the third and 10-8 in the fourth. Dublin ended up winning 50-33. Leading scorer for the Dillos was Luke Cox with 11, Ryan Pannell with 8, Clayton Perry with 6, JT Mathis with 3, Aaron Perez and Tanner Hawkins with 2 each, and Ryan Guidroz with 1. The Dillos will host Bangs on Jan. 31, and will host Hamilton on Feb. 3.
