Monday, in honor of Veterans’ Day, students and local veterans gathered to share breakfast at San Saba Elementary School. Over 20 area veterans and their guests, San Saba ISD Superintendent, Leigh Ann Glaze; Assistant Superintendent, Ashley Stewart; Principal, Bruce Tabor; School Counselor, Kathryn Robertson; Elementary staff, teachers and 289 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten to 4th grade participated to help make the occasion a special moment for all to remember. Tabor said, “This is a program by the students for the veterans.”

Tabor who is a former US Marine spoke to students, “This is an important day to remember the most important job throughout the history of our country, a job that continues to be one of greatest importance today, a job that soldiers serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world are doing right now; this is the difficult and vital job of protecting our freedoms in America. Sometimes in the course of doing this job soldiers may be injured or even killed. Veterans Day is a day that we say thank you to all these soldiers from the past and in the present. This is a day to honor our veterans.”

Ross Cox, San Saba Post Commander, hosted the event. PTO President, Marian Deans, who lost her father in the Viet Nam War, handed out flag pins. Third Grade Student, Raylee Panell opened with the welcome. A Soldier’s Prayer was recited by fourth grader, Carter Eden. Fourth graders handed out hand - made cards. The Middle School fifth grade choir sang several patriotic songs under the leadership of music teacher, Sharon Howard. Breakfast was prepared and served by the San Saba ISD food services department headed by Diane Wood. Tabor said, “Thank you to all the veterans who came to be part of our student’s program and everyone who helped make it special; we hope to see you again next year.”
