The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met January 19, 2012 for play day and the sun was shining brightly and it was a great play day. Jo Anne Hardy called the game for the day, the traveling 4-ball point system using team play. The 4-ball system is where you are awarded a point for a boggie, two points for a par, and three points for a birdie plus your handicap. The team of Anita Miles, Hattie Rogers, Jo Ann Snow, and Peggy Jones defeated the team of Sandee Hartley, Dorothy Sterner, and Jo Anne Hardy, with Peggy Jones being their blind partner, by three points. It was a battle to the end with the greens being as fast as ‘greased lightening’. Somehow, Anita Miles won the low putt pot and chipped in to split the chip in pot with Jo Anne Hardy, who also chipped in. Sandee Hartley was the low gross for the day and she and Anita scored the only birdies of the day. Jo Ann Snow was low net. Only in our Texas can you come out in January and have such a beautiful day for golf! The ladies were delighted to get to visit with Becky Hardin who was playing with her husband, Larry. Becky has had health issues but reported she is doing very well and it was evident as she was on the course chasing that little white ball. Larry is a great ‘Nurse Jane’! We all have Becky in our prayers. The City has done a magnificent job of prunning back the trees around the greens. This will make for gorgeous greens in the spring. The golf course is in beautiful shape and the city keeps making such wonderful improvements and enhancements, with plants and rocks and trails. It is worth your time to drive down to the San Saba River Golf Course and view this outstanding asset to our town and community! And YOU are always invited to try golf! You could like it. It’s good for your health and your spirits. And we have a real pro, Keith Harris, who gives great lessons and will get you started on the right track and who knows, you might just join in with us and start ‘swinging’! T
